I wish to make you realize
to help you finally see
That life is what you make it
and what will be will be
It really is quite simple
although we struggle so
To be aware of what we do
and when to really know
I stand here in all nakedness
with my soul an open book
Of happiness and the heartache
and perplexity to overlook
I shed my inhibitions
and the pain that makes them real
I give my flesh and blood
and emotions which makes me feel
Our legacy is our children
and the messages we portray
The memories in our book on life
to see another day
It will not go unnoticed
if you are honest, kind and true
To interpret and find the sense of
and ultimately to construe
I see the world in shades of grey
with room for us to grow
No matter who stands before us
or who chooses when to go
Our lives are ever-changing
with no plan to follow through
A challenge seen within itself
for Us and Me and You
Tears will fall and smiles are shared
and lives will inter-twine
To fill our hearts with others
and to give love is a sign
Of everlasting fulfillment
of joy and boundless health
No monetary value
is needed for our wealth
So hand in hand we plan our lives
with courage and with hope
To walk each path with fortitude
and learning how to cope
I give you all of who I am
and what my eyes do see
This world a place of beauty
for Them and You and Me
to help you finally see
That life is what you make it
and what will be will be
It really is quite simple

Literature
New Year's Eve
A black velvet canvas,
stretched over twin hills.
Dark water below mirrors,
vibrant greens rivaling emeralds,
electric blues that mock sapphires,
fire reds shaming rubies.
Higher and higher,
whistles, pops and loud bangs,
fly up into the sky, exploding.
Lighting up the night with broad strokes
that linger for a moment,
then are gone...
replaced by the next.
Silver sparkles and shines,
while glittering gold shooting stars
reach the heavens,
never touching the earth.
A broad canvas,
exhilarating paint,
lasting a moment in the sky,
and forever in our hearts.

The Warrior's Quandy
I hear the drums, the chanting,
far behind me, near the camp.
I sit alone, under Grandmother Moon.
I need to think.
Which path is right?
Which path is wrong?
Will we, the First People,
regret this way we forge?
The elders counsel waiting,
the younger feel the flames of war,
they hear the call of the drums.
The white devils make many promises,
but the only ones they keep involve violence.
So many of our people, not just warriors,
woman and children, slain as well,
left to rot, lost to history.
We've been driven from our lands,
so many times,
uprooted from our past.
What will the future hold?
Will our ways die?

Your Arms Are Home
I save a look just for you from across the room.
Your eyes meet mine making my heart melt.
When you hold me close I feel safe, like your arms are home to me.
