Obsessions of a young woman
Perhaps the sun could stain me
with fine citrus from its flesh
and my skin could glow
and maybe then
I could be a newborn star.
And if strawberries tasted me
instead of me savoring them,
maybe I could become like them;
good and small.
If my spine broke into pieces
and became my precious new
flight appendages, maybe then
I could feel light and beautiful.

I would devour you
by the inch
enshrouded
within my depths.
Let me drown you
in my blood
quietly
in the night
I steal your breath.
My eyes follow
you around the room
vigilantly watching.
And your movements
become imprinted
in my memory.
Every moment
I am there
in shadow
or in light.
Inhaling
the scent of you
like a wolf
I will always find
you.
Absorb me
into your pores
and consume me
in your mind.
Because
each pulse
of your blood
calls my name.
And I am carved
into your flesh
bone deep.

I shiver in fear from the static radiating off your touch.
"I'll be there, I promise!"
I anticipate the day where you realize that you can't save me from humanity.
"Trust me."
I recoil back into my evasive shell, anything to refrain from broken promises.
"I love you."
My heart pumps with adrenaline, while my head is screaming
you're a fool.

I've always found that lust is quite a different creature. Answering the call in the wrong fashion, too much or too little, gets to feeling pretty empty. Love is the thing to look for - we should lust for that. Of course, that doesn't say anything about how I found this to be a most excellent poem. Well written author.
